Airush Cypher Kitesurf Board Review

Airush Cypher Kitesurf Board Review

First Impressions

The first thing you'll notice when placing the Cypher V3 and V4 side by side is how different they look. The V3 features fuller rails and a noticeably thicker overall construction, while the V4 has evolved into a thinner, more refined shape.

Despite these changes, both boards stay true to the Cypher's roots. The compact outline and parallel rails create plenty of speed while maintaining a predictable feel that makes the board easy to ride.

At the shop, we find that the Cypher is one of the easiest surfboards for twintip riders to transition onto. Flat water and small onshore waves are where this board really shines, making it a favorite for riders looking to progress their strapless riding.

Built for Speed and Strapless Riding

The Cypher was designed to be a high speed strapless or strapped freestyle machine. Its flatter rocker, compact outline, and parallel rails help it generate speed effortlessly, making it ideal for riders focused on strapless tricks or powered freeride sessions.

One thing we consistently hear from customers is how comfortable the Cypher feels compared to more surf oriented shapes. While it can handle small waves with ease, its real strength is making everyday conditions fun.

The single to double concave helps smooth out chop while maintaining enough surfboard feel to keep things playful when waves roll in.

Cypher V3

The V3 features fuller rails and a thicker core construction that gives the board a more solid feel. It rides slightly larger than its listed dimensions and offers excellent durability thanks to its more substantial build.

At the shop, we often recommend the V3 to larger riders or anyone looking to maximize light wind performance. The added volume helps the board get up and going early while maintaining excellent control once powered.

The thicker construction is also appealing to riders who prioritize durability and long term reliability.

Cypher V4

The V4 represents a significant redesign. The rails are noticeably thinner and the board incorporates more flex throughout the construction.

Riders coming from twintips often feel at home on the V4 right away. The added flex creates a smoother ride and a softer feel underfoot while still delivering the responsiveness needed for modern strapless freestyle.

It also does a great job absorbing chop, making longer sessions easier on the legs.

Final Thoughts

At the shop, we've always appreciated the Cypher because it fills a unique niche. It isn't a dedicated wave board, nor is it trying to replace a twintip. Instead, it blends elements of both into a shape that performs exceptionally well in the conditions most riders encounter every day.

The V3 remains our go to recommendation for heavier riders, light wind enthusiasts, and anyone who prefers a more planted feel. The V4 offers a smoother ride with added flex, making it a great option for riders focused on comfort and freestyle progression.

No matter which version you choose, the Cypher continues to be one of the most versatile boards in the Airush lineup and a proven choice for strapless riders looking to maximize fun in everyday conditions.
